New York New York

I drove to New York last Thursday to attend the wedding of Christine and Charley. Charley is a cousin on my fathers side of the family and a great friend.
The trip down started as usual with my leaving the Island three hours behind schedule. Barby MacKinnon a life long friend of Charley's was driving down with me. We picked up Alexa my daughter in Fredericton N.B. she too would be attending the wedding
Snow had begun to fall as we pulled out of Fredericton . I thought we would drive through it, we are headed south aren't we? The snow never stopped, 12 hours on the road and my eyes bulging out of my head. I finally called it quits, Portsmouth N.H., live free or die, great place to spend the night. Barbie and I set out in search of food and grog, did you know the bars close at 12AM in New Hampshire? Neither did we.
In the morning we took advantage of the complimentary breakfast and headed out arriving on Long Island at Christine and Charley's around 6PM. Between 6 and 8PM the house filled with guests arriving by plane train and automobile and from all points.
After a few cocktails Charlie took everyone, around 40 of us, to this fabulous Italian restaurant. The food was to die for I ate my share and then some.By this time it was getting late 11 PM, We followed Charley to the Hampton Inn, another good place to spend the night. After a visit from security telling us the other guests wanted to sleep the party ended. It's time anyway said Charley we have to save some for tomorrow, I'm getting married!
At 1 PM we were picked up by a limo and driven to the church, I felt like a rock star. The ceremony was beautiful, you could feel the love in the room.
Charley and Christine had rented a bus to drive everyone to the reception, great idea, no D.W.I.
The reception room was right out of the great Gatsby. Christine and Charley are great together and the entire event went off without a hitch.
The next morning we went to visit with Christine and Charley at their home on Long Island, coffee and or beer, Charley is such a great host.
We wanted to go to Brooklyn with them to visit Charley's parents but as usual time was our enemy and we still hadn't seen Manhattan.
We decided to take the train into the city getting off at Pen Station and hay their's Macy's. We walked for miles, Lord And Taylor, Sacks 5th Avenue, The Empire State Building. We stopped at St. Patricks for a rest and on to the Trump Tower for drinks. We met Jim Hornby, Barby McKinnon and Rossie Bradley at the Trump Bar and decided we would all meet on Bleeker St. in the village and go for dinner. Again Italian! Alexa Jimmy and myself ducked into the Cafe Wha for coffee, not! Bob Dylan got his start in this bar. The energy in the streets of N.Y. is electrifying 11Pm on a Sunday night and everything in the city is opened. We grabbed the 11:20 train back to Long Island and were snug in our beds at 1:15 AM. After breakfast we started for home in countering little turbulence until we reached the boarder, too much liquor, pay the fine or give up the boos, what choice is that?
We arrived in Fredericton at Alexa's around 11PM. Barb and I still had a 4 hour drive ahead of us. I pulled into Barbie driveway around 4:30AM got to my place and was in bed by 5:15.
All in all I had a marvelous time. It was great that Alexa and I were able to go together, I coined a new word, I call my daughter the nagagator. A navigator with attitude.
Yarrow you were missed, Christine and Charley you were beautiful Love you Lex thanks for your company,we will do it again soon.
Thanks for listening
